Why it is ours

Mitmita is the spice that separates the seasoned from the cautious at an Ethiopian table — passed around for those who want their food to fight back. It connects to the deep Black American love of hot sauce and heat, but in a dry, salt-light form better for blood pressure.

What it does

Mitmita is among the most capsaicin-dense seasonings in the database. Capsaicin at this concentration drives thermogenesis, supports circulation through vasodilation, clears congestion, and has measurable analgesic and metabolic effects. The korarima (Ethiopian cardamom) adds aromatic compounds with antimicrobial activity. A pinch goes a long way as a fat-free, salt-light way to add intense flavor and metabolic lift.

How it is cooked

Grind dried bird's eye chilies with korarima, cloves, and a small amount of salt into a fine powder. Use sparingly as a finishing spice, a dip, or a rub. Store airtight.
