Why it is ours

Egusi seeds (melon seeds similar to pumpkin seeds) are one of the most important ingredients in West African cooking — ground into paste for egusi soup. The cultural connection between pumpkin seeds and West African egusi tradition is the ancestral bridge to the same Cucurbit family. APEX makes that visible.

What it does

Pumpkin seed oil and seeds have 2 Cochrane-quality studies demonstrating improvement in BPH symptoms (benign prostate hyperplasia) — reducing nighttime urination frequency and improving flow. Directly relevant to Brothers Sentinel prostate health domain. Zinc density is the highest plant source — zinc is depleted by stress (weathering hypothesis), critical for immune function, wound healing, and testosterone synthesis. Tryptophan content is the highest of any seed — precursor to serotonin and melatonin, supporting sleep and mood.

How it is cooked

Raw pumpkin seeds: available at any grocery store. Toast in dry pan or oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes. Season with sea salt and cayenne. Add to salads, grain bowls, smoothies, or eat as snack. Pumpkin seed butter available as alternative to peanut butter.
