Why it is ours

NAFLD rates in Black Americans are high and climbing. Black women in menopause face vaginal dryness that affects quality of life and sexual health — and this is rarely discussed in Black women's healthcare. Sea buckthorn's omega-7 addresses both.

What it does

Omega-7 palmitoleic acid is the fat that cells in mucosal tissue (gut lining, vaginal tissue, skin) preferentially incorporate. A 2019 RCT showed sea buckthorn oil significantly improved vaginal atrophy symptoms in postmenopausal women — directly relevant to Black women in menopause whose sexual health is rarely discussed in healthcare settings. Liver fat reduction mechanism: palmitoleic acid inhibits lipogenesis in the liver. Multiple studies show reduction in liver triglycerides in NAFLD.

How it is cooked

Available as juice (very tart — dilute or mix with other fruits), oil capsules, or dried berries. Sea buckthorn oil (topical) is used for skin healing.
