Why it is ours

Telba is a beloved Ethiopian fasting beverage — nourishing enough to sustain a body through abstention from animal foods. Its lignan and omega-3 load makes it quietly relevant to the fibroid and hormonal-health burden Black women carry, delivered in a humble, ancestral cup.

What it does

Flax is the richest plant source of ALA omega-3 fatty acids and the single richest dietary source of lignans — phytoestrogens studied for hormone balance, fibroid support, and breast and prostate health, all high-priority concerns for Black Americans. The soluble fiber lowers LDL cholesterol and eases constipation, while the omega-3s and lignans together cool systemic inflammation. As a daily fasting drink, telba turns flax's full medicinal profile into something you can simply sip.

How it is cooked

Roast flaxseed lightly, then grind to a fine flour (grinding is essential — whole flax passes through undigested). Whisk the ground flax into cool or warm water until smooth and slightly thickened. Sweeten lightly with honey if desired; some add a pinch of spice. Drink fresh before it gels too much.
