Turnip Greens

Humble, nutrient-dense tops from the turnip — often cooked root and all in one pot.

Why it is ours

Root and top cooked together is a hallmark of Black Southern economy: waste nothing. Turnip greens were plantation-era survival food — the whole plant fed a family.

What it does

Turnip greens have among the highest calcium content of any leafy vegetable. High Vitamin K supports bone mineralization — important as Black women face underdiagnosed osteoporosis risk after 50.

How it is cooked

Pull leaves from stalks, chop coarsely. Dice the turnip roots and add to the same pot — roots soften in about the same time as the greens.
