Why it is ours

In Gullah Geechee tradition and throughout the Black South, yellow dock was the standard anemia remedy. Blackstrap molasses + yellow dock was the iron protocol for women with heavy bleeding, growing children, and pregnant women before iron supplements existed.

What it does

Yellow dock stimulates bile flow from liver and gallbladder, improving fat digestion and fat-soluble vitamin absorption. Anthraquinone glycosides stimulate intestinal peristalsis — relieving constipation that often accompanies iron deficiency. Combined with blackstrap molasses (3.5mg iron per tablespoon), it creates a potent ancestral iron protocol. Black women with fibroids lose significant iron through heavy menstrual bleeding — this combination addresses it directly.

How it is cooked

Brew as tea (1 tsp dried root per cup, simmer 15-20 minutes) or take as tincture. Classic ancestral preparation: 1 tbsp yellow dock tincture + 1 tbsp blackstrap molasses in warm water, twice daily. Bitter — add ginger and honey.
